A Suck Born Every Minute or Gore Hid The Truth

The fact is global warming is as natural as the sun's changes. Earth's climate is routinely controlled by the sun and the planet's position. Human involvement plays very little on the changes of weather. One needs only to do proper research and think about everything. Glacier National Park has been melting since the end of the little ice age. How can we blame man?

Fear is where we blame ourselves. What better way for enviromentalists to help their cause than to perpetuate a fear that we are killing our earth and ourselves. They would rather cause future wars than admit this. I am for cleaning up the enviroment but not for a myth. I would rather drink water that will not give me cancer than consume polluted water.

If man goes extinct it will not be due to global warming or any of the pollutants he puts out. It will be his stupidity in the willingness to believe anything. We will cease to populate the world in order for to save the world for future generations to enjoy.

Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases

If you have a look at the greenhouse effect, you will understand how global warming is effecting our environment and how global warming is caused by mankind.

The main cause for the current global warming is indeed the emission of greenhouse gases, in particular CO2 from burning fossile fuels. (Earlier warming periods have been caused by different reasons, but we only talk about the current one).

There is scientific evidence

There is scientific evidence that suggests that the surface temperature of the earth is related to the suns magnetic cycles. There is also evidence that suggests that the slightly rising average temperature we have been seeing in the past couple decades is because the earth is coming out of an ice age. On the other hand there is scientific evidence that shows over the past 650,000 years, the earths temperature has risen and fallen with atmospheric CO2 levels.

People use this information as ammunition to support their claims that "we are causing global warming" or "global warming is for suckers... it's a natural process". If you are one of these people, you are missing the point.

The point is that 1: this is merely "evidence" not proof. Too many people are making bold claims about something that can't be proven or disproven. 2: the real question is wether the 40% of additional CO2 humans have put into the atmosphere is going to cause a rise in temperature that is in addition to the earths natural temperature cycles. If you think you have the answer to this, I urge you to quit while you are ahead... You don't. Nobody can say for sure.

Now the question is: Do we continue down the current path and find out? By then it could be too late. I say we learn to tread a little more lightly on this planet because there is nothing bad that can happen by doing so...

This is about RISK

The issue is about risk and managing risk. Science still does not know the exact mechanism by which smoking and its associated chemicals causes cancer. What we do know is that smoking is the biggest risk factor in developing lung cancer. The more you smoke, the more your risk of getting lung cancer. Not everyone who smokes gets lung cancer, and not everyone who gets lung cancer has smoked.

Similarly with Climate Change, we are seeing that temperatures are rising at the same time that atmospheric greenhouse gas levels have gone off the charts over the last 650,000 years.

If the IPCC is right, and we don't do anything, we risk massive temperature increases that will lead to the loss of the great ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica, resulting in a 20 foot increase in sea levels. That would take about 100 years if we do nothing. Almost all of the major population centers located on coasts (check out the % of Asia, Europe, and North American cities which would be affected.) Huge costs if that is right.

If the IPCC is wrong, and we do everything we can to reduce new emissions of greenhouse gases, we would reduce the annual increase of global GDP by 0.12%. Since global GDP is growing around 3%, that is not a big cost.

This is exactly why people buy insurance. Most Americans will never have a fire. Only about 1% will ever have a house fire. However, most Americans buy fire insurance. Why? Managing risks.

Science has told us the facts. It's up to us to manage the risks.

carbon footprint

i wonder how big al gores' carbon footprint is?
