I live in a small community in Jamaica. Recently while driving by an area in down Kingston after the passage of tropical storm Gustav I observed a number of blocked drains, garbages on the road side etc. These and other experiences of the hurricane seasons from 2004 have opened my eyes of how anthropogenic activity is indeed the mastermind behind Global warming. Many attempts have been done by the government and private organizations to help lessen the impacts human activity place on our environment, but In truth and in fact many have gone in vain.
I am an active member in Recycling, conservation, biodiversity groups- just to name a few and from my experiences in such groups I have come to realize that most individuals in my community and school do not take Global Warming seriously. Solution: the main strategy to deal with this issue is educating the public on the causes, effects and possible solutions for Global warming. A wise man once said Education is the key to success; education is the key to stop global warming. In a small developing country as main it is very difficult in carrying out such a task due to a lack of funding or resources (maybe) or probably a lack of commitment by some individuals.
My team mates and I are still trying with the best of our ability to keep on spreading the word across our country……… “we may be likkle but wi talawa”. And I encourage other small organizations, communities and countries to come on board and start now before it’s too late.
